PASSION (WHAT MOVES YOU?)

In the 2021 Netflix heist thriller The Vault, Walter (a salvager) defines what passion is for Thom (a recent engineering graduate from Cambridge):

"We can't explain our passions, if we did - listen to that. A million people gathering to cheer for men they don't know, to put a ball in a net. Unnecessary, unessential, but it means everything. That's passion."

The Vault is a great movie I highly recommend for your watchlist. Walter's definition is the subject matter for this post. As 2022 approaches the end, I offer this question as a guide into 2023: What moves you? This time of year, we set resolutions that deal with weight loss, more exercise, restructuring our finances, etc. These goals often fall by the wayside within the first several weeks of the new year.

While goals offer benchmarks to work towards, they need a fundamental driver - passion. Here is my definition of passion. What moves you in such a way that it is more significant than yourself and will be your offering to make this world a better place to live? The answer is more complex but lies in a mission-driven purpose. Brainstorm ideas from the following list of questions:

·    What moves you?

·    What area of the population can most benefit from your offerings?

·    What are you most passionate about that will do the greatest good for the most significant number of people?

·    What will it take to get you there?

Realizing this game plan may require furthering your education for your chosen path. If you need help with brainstorming, seek assistance from those already in the field and ask if you can shadow them for a day on the job. Volunteering is a great way to begin this networking process. It is gratifying to be a guide for others who cross paths with you in this lifetime. Making a difference in the lives of others is about the purpose and not just a checkmark on a list of things to do. Happy New Year, and I will see you in 2023.

Namaste,

Tim
